With Medicare covering more than 60 million people, Medicare.gov is an essential website for large swaths of the U.S. population for healthcare coverage and information.

Fearless is partnering with CivicActions to redesign the highly trafficked website.

Modernizing Medicare.gov.

CMS' Web and Emerging Technologies Group (WETG) helps millions of people find and enroll in healthcare programs every year. Its websites and tools give beneficiaries the resources and tools they need to make informed decisions about their care.

As part of our work on the Web Experience and Content Management Services (WECMS) project, Fearless was brought on to migrate, re-platform, and redesign sites like Medicare.gov and CMS.gov.

The first updates to Medicare.gov were rolled out this summer and include the site's static pages.

“They have this brand new feature called ‘Wizards’ that help users go through an intuitive workflow and we will be implementing something called ‘Help Drawers,’” said Fearless scrum master Danielle Wales. “As users go through the workflow and want to learn more or go into greater detail, they can click on an element in the page, and from the right side of the page a new window opens as an overlay on the existing screen, taking visitors through additional information.”

Building a streamlined user experience.

By consolidating information and eliminating redundant pages, users will have a more streamlined experience when navigating Medicare.gov for critical information.

In addition to the improvements being made to Medicare.gov, CMS is also moving away from paid applications and embracing more open-source tools such as DKAN.

“By moving to an open-source application, we have reduced CMS’ spending by several hundred thousand dollars. The new tool we're using will have more customization ability in the future compared to the old tool,” Wales said.

We're proud to modernize vital resources like Medicare.gov, CMS.gov, and the many public-facing applications under the WECMS umbrella. And by doing so, Fearless is empowering caregivers, health providers, data professionals, and Government stakeholders.

We're giving them the information they need when they need it while helping beneficiaries across the US make informed decisions about their care.
