More than 50 million people receive healthcare through Medicare.
“Blue Button”, developed by the Veteran’s Administration and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), allows Medicare beneficiaries to safely download their medical information. And it has been used by more than 1 million beneficiaries.
The downloadable files are easy to read but according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, it can “become challenging when handling large amounts of data, or converting the content into reusable data for further analysis.”
Fearless, along with our partner Ad Hoc, will support development efforts to make information in Blue Button easier to consume.
"Ad Hoc is excited to be working with Fearless to make Blue Button even more useful to more people. This is a seminal project in the nexus of government digital services and open data," said Ad Hoc CEO Greg Gershman.
Providing strong digital services in the Federal marketplace.
We're excited to be on a team supporting internal CMS digital services professionals and the United States Digital Service (USDS). This group of innovators at USDS has a passion for providing strong digital services in the Federal marketplace.
“The Blue Button project is especially exciting as we consider the potential population health implications it can have," said Fearless' Health Innovation Officer, Letitia Dzirasa. "Allowing a beneficiary to share meaningful health data that can potentially be used to influence treatment and subsequently promote improved health outcomes by sharing that data with a healthcare provider or a linked health app just by the click of a button is an honor.”
Making your health data work for you.
Fearless is building an API for developers and third-party providers to interact with Blue Button. Users will be able to share their health records with any participating provider in the country. They will also be able to share records with fitness and health apps so they can easily access and interact with the information on their phones or other mobile devices.
“As digital healthcare evolves, data becomes an important resource that patients can use to improve health outcomes for themselves, and as part of research groups. This drives the need for easier data interoperability,” according to CMS.gov.
“We're honored to have been selected to help bring Blue Button to millions across America. Equipping beneficiaries and those most important to them with personal health information allows users to be able to more efficiently direct their healthcare,” said Fearless’ John Foster.
