Fearless is excited to announce that we've been awarded a contract supporting the Billion Oyster Project's Curriculum + Community Enterprise for Restoration Science program (BOP-CCERS).
The program aims to improve STEM education in public schools by linking teaching and learning to ecosystem restoration. It engages students in hands-on environmental field science during their regular school day.
The project also strongly emphasizes the use of computer science and digital tools for environmental monitoring, citizen science, and stewardship.
Working together to conduct oyster restoration research in NY.
BOP-CCERS is a research-based partnership initiative between:
- New York Harbor Foundation,
- Pace University,
- New York City Department of Education,
- Columbia University Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory,
- New York Academy of Sciences,
- University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science,
- New York Aquarium,
- The River Project,
- Good Shepherd Services.
The group is a community of students and teachers, professional scientists and citizen scientist volunteers, schools, universities, businesses, and community organizations, all working together to conduct oyster restoration-based scientific research in New York Harbor.
We'll develop an integrated, unique online learning and field science digital platform for real-time data collection and research.
“We feel very fortunate to be welcomed into the CCERS family as the provider of the Billion Oyster Project CCERS Digital Platform that will serve much of NYCDOE, the largest public school system in the country. Science and environmental restoration education, saving the harbor, saving the oysters, getting students excited about STEM.....and we get to do all of our development open source? This project was a huge no-brainer. This is the type of stuff we live for!”
